I really liked this recipe. I've made it twice; once in the oven and once in the crock pot. said to throw it on the grill which would probably be pretty good too. If you want a thicker sauce, add a couple of teaspoons of cornstarch (dissolved in water to your sauce Its pretty spicy, so if you prefer your food more mild, omit or cut down on the optional spices.
Shoyu Chicken
adapted from allrecipes.com
Ingredients:
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger root (I just used powdered ginger)
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
1 teaspoon ground paprika (optional)
5 pounds chicken thighs or breasts
Directions:
Crock pot: Combine everything together and pour over chicken. Cook until chicken is a desired tenderness.
Grill or Oven: Combine everything together. Marinate chicken for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator, covered. Then bake/grill until cooked through. Baking the chicken in the marinade makes it super flavorful and tender. Discard the marinade if you grill the chicken.
